It’s important to us that we only use the highest quality ingredients in our products.

The United States Pharmacopoeia (or “USP”) is the independent, FDA-recognized organization that sets the standard for quality, strength, and purity of natural active ingredients and pharmaceuticals.

USP regulations require genuine witch hazel to be distilled from the bark and twigs of mature, dormant, Hamamelis Virginiana plants. This produces the purest, most effective, and safest product.

This process is why T.N. Dickinson’s distilled Witch Hazel the ONLY 100% Natural USP Witch Hazel.

Our products are FDA approved for the treatment of minor skin abrasions and inflamed hemorrhoidal tissues.

The FDA does not require expiration dating on cosmetics or pharmaceutical products that have shelf life greater than three years.

T.N. Dickinson’s has products that are classified as cosmetics and others that are over the counter (OTC) pharmaceutical treatments. All of our products, however, go through rigorous testing to ensure quality, safety and stability of at least two years from the date it was packaged. In many cases the quality of our products allows them to exceed three years, though we trust you’ll love them enough that you’ll use them up long before then.

None of our products contain any dyes, sulfates, parabens, phthalates or gluten except for our Hemorrhoidal Pads which contain a small amount of methylparaben.

This is a common cosmetic and personal-care preservative that is necessary for safety due to the application area of the product and the need to keep the rest of the pads in the jar free from bacterial growth.

Yes, we employ sustainable practices for harvesting and manufacturing! The respectful techniques we use limit our impact the well-being of humans, animals, or ecosystems present on our harvest lands.

Our sustainable practices start with 3rd party organic certification of the harvest lands to document that there is no potential for contamination of the witch hazel we gather and that we do not impact the sustainability of the native species.

The organic witch hazel plants we harvest regrow from the same roots every 5-7 years, which promotes the overall health of the forest by providing sunlight for other hardwoods to grow.

Once back at our processing facility, we employ many green manufacturing techniques such as reclaiming the heat generated from our production process to heat our building and hot water!

Even the processed witch hazel wood chips, are sold as landscaping mulch to local garden stores so what comes from the earth goes back to the earth!

Yes, all T.N. Dickinson’s products are proudly manufactured in the United States of America.

Yes, the bottles and caps of our T.N. Dickinson’s astringent are recyclable. Please make sure your municipality accepts #1 plastics.

All of our products are vegan and cruelty-free.  We never test on animals at any stage of product development.

Your nose knows! An easy way to tell if your product contains genuine witch hazel is to give it a sniff! Genuine witch hazel has a distinct botanical scent that is its signature. Even in fragranced products, often you can smell its characteristic undertones. Also, you can check the ingredients statement on the back label to see if witch hazel is at the top or bottom of the list. Cosmetic products are required to list ingredients in descending order of concentration. If water is listed first – it’s not powered by genuine witch hazel!

Simply put, T.N. Dickinson’s witch hazel is pharmaceutical grade witch hazel that can be used for clinical or treatment applications!  We are the only 100% natural witch hazel to meet the requirements of The United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

USP is an independent organization that sets the standard for quality, purity, and strength of active naturals.  According to USP, genuine witch hazel is distilled from the mature, dormant, bark and twigs of Hamamelis Virginiana (the witch hazel plant), never contains leaves, has a limit on tannins (tannic acid), which are known to irritate skin, and is preserved with 14% ethyl alcohol.

We meet all of that and go beyond to ensure even our alcohol is natural – grain alcohol – to help maintain the purity of our product so you can rely on it as your family has for generations.

Tannins (tannic acid) are known to be skin irritants. In accordance with USP guidelines, and to ensure a pure and gentle yet highly effective product, T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel is distilled to remove impurities such as tannins. As defined by USP, genuine witch hazel must be produced this way and tested to ensure that the product does not contain tannins above a very low limit.

USP Witch Hazel Definition: Witch Hazel is a clear, colorless distillate prepared from the recently cut and partially dried dormant twigs of Hamamelis Virginiana Linne.

Our pure, natural witch hazel distillate contains organic compounds which can spoil if not preserved, which is why we combine our distillate with pure grain alcohol as a gentle, natural preservative at the lowest level possible – 14%, as specified by USP.
